I believe every person can benefit from counseling with or without a mental health diagnosis. I chose to go into counseling because I realized how beneficial therapy can be to help grow into the truest version of ourselves, despite the obstacles life throws at us and past choices we have made.

Bi-weekly or weekly is recommended upon the first few meetings and largely depends on the individual. We can work together to discuss and decide what would be the best fit for you based on the first few sessions.
Counseling is an investment, and is most effective when it is consistent. I will work to accommodate your schedule to the best of my ability. We can schedule sessions through phone, email, or at the end of each session.
If you are unable to keep your appointment, I require a 24-hour notice. If this is not possible, you will be charged a fee of $100.
Emergencies will be exempted at my discretion. I will contact you before charging your card.
All sessions are $130 at this time.
Private pay by card is preferable. Reach out directly for additional payment options: [email protected]
Many insurance plans provide out-of-network mental health coverage. For clients that wish to use their insurance and have out-of-network coverage, I can provide statements they can submit to their insurance companies for partial reimbursement.
If you are unsure if you have out-of-network benefits, I recommend calling your insurance company directly. Important questions to ask are, “What are my mental health benefits”, “What is my deductible or what is my out-of-pocket max”, and “Do you cover session code 90834?”.
*Filing a claim is the client’s responsibility & insurance reimbursements are subject to your individual plan and benefits.
Yes, per the No Surprises Act (see below), you have the right to an estimate explaining how much your mental health care will cost. You will be provided a Good Faith Estimate when you sign up for services and any other time you request one, including before signing up for services. We recommend at least 3 sessions, the average number of sessions at Ascend Counseling is 12, and the exact number you will need depends on your individual circumstances and needs.
“Right to Receive a Good Faith Estimate of Expected Charges” Under the No Surprises Act
Instructions Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, health care providers and health care facilities are required to inform individuals who are not enrolled in a plan or coverage or a Federal health care program, or not seeking to file a claim with their plan or coverage both orally and in writing of their ability, upon request or at the time of scheduling health care items and services, to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” of expected charges.
Under the law, healthcare providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.
You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit: https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
Hi! I’m Alison. My life changed directions when I was able to receive counseling services, therefore I know the impact it can have on someone’s life, and is why I decided to change my major and pursue a career in counseling.
I grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, and received my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology at the University of Alabama in 2015, and received my Master’s of Education in Counseling from Auburn University in 2017.
I spent my first 5 years in the counseling field working in the public school systems. I have experience in elementary, middle, and high school. Since then, I have attained my Associates License in Counseling (ALC) and am under the supervision of Angela Mains, MA, LPC-S, and began working at a local college as a mental health therapist.
I specialize in anxiety, life transitions, identity, family systems, trauma work, with the option of Christian counseling, as well as utilizing play therapy. I love to work with those trying to learn more about themselves, and those exploring the heartaches of life. I value integrating emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual exploration in the counseling process creatively.
Clients accepted are age 10 and up, high school and college-age students, and men and women in their 20s and 30s. I am accepting in-person clients as well as telehealth across the state of Alabama.
I would love to be a part of your journey.
Let’s meet where you are now and see where it takes you.
